Championship Title To Mrs Duncan PLAY TO 21ST GREEN ACCURATE PUTTING COUNTS By one stroke on the 21st green Mrs G. A. Duncan beat Miss Robertson at Fairfield yesterday to win the 1934 senior championship of the Hawera Ladies’ Golf Glub. Miss Robertson was not showing her usual form and wa3 short with her approach shots in which she usually is fairly strong. Mrs Duncan practically won the match with her putting, which was very accurate. Af the first green both were on with their second shots and Mrs Duncan holed a long putt for 3 to Miss Robertson’s 4. With good drives and seconds at the second both were on in 4. Mrs Duncan just missed a putt for 5 and Miss Robertson, in playing her fifth to the hole, knocked Mrs Duncan’s ball in, giving her a win, 5 —6. The third hole Miss Robertson took with a bogey 5 to Mrs Duncan’s 7. This was a good hole and at the fourth Miss Robertson squared the match by 6 to 7, both being on in four. At Crater Miss Robertson was to the left of the green which cost her a shot. Mrs Duncan was through at the back but took the hole in 4 to Miss R-obertson’s 5. Miss Robertson had a long drive and was just short with her second and was on in three. Mrs Duncan’s drive landed in the hummocks at the right, which cost her two shots. She was on in 4. Mrs Duncan holed a long putt for 5, while Miss Robertson missed a 4 and the hole was halved in 5, Mrs Duncan being 1 up. Sandy Hook was halved in bogey 4. Miss Robertson played two beautiful shots to be just short at Egmont and Mrs Duncan, was on in 4. Miss Robertson was short with her approach shot, both missing their putts. The hole went to Miss Robertson in 0 to 7, and the players were all square. Miss Robertson had a good drive, but a bad lie on the ridge at the right for the 9th. At Plateau both - were well up over the ridge with good drives, but both landed on the green to run through at the back. Miss Robertson was nicely down to the pin with three and Miss Duncan was short. Miss Robertson failed to hole her putt and the hole was halved in five. Miss Robertson again improved her lead by taking Cliff in bogey four to Miss Duncan’s five, Miss Robertson being three up. Miss Robertson, with a very good drive, just failed to reach the green with her second, while Mrs Duncan played a good second shot to the green and took the hole in bogey four to five. At Fairfield Miss Robertson’s long drive was well over the ridge. She was just a little too strong with her second and landed just through at the back of the green. Mrs Duncan was just on in two and, by holing a long putt for four, took the hole in four to five, Miss Robertson just missing her four. Miss Robertson was one up. At Pacific Mrs Duncan squared the match by taking the hole in bogey four to Miss Robertson’s five. Mrs Duncan was on in two and Miss Robertson in three. At Return from good drives Mrs Duncan holed a long putt for birdie three. Miss Robertson’s bogey four again rook the lead one up. Both got long drives again at Cooee and Miss Robertson, with a long second to the left of the green, was on in three, Mrs Duncan failing with her second and third to reach the green. The hole went to Miss Robertson in bogey five to six and the match was all square. Mrs Duncan got a good drive at the 18th, but Miss Robertson failed to get her’s well away and was four on the green. Mrs Duncan, from a good second, played well through the green with her third and was on in four and the hole was halved in six. At the 19th green both were on in tlieir second shots, but Mrs Duncan’s ball over-ran the hole for three. The hole was halved in four. From good drives and seconds both w T ere short of the green with the third shots and a half in six resulted. Both had long drives and the balls were lying together. From her second shot Mrs Duncan was on in three and Miss Robertson was just short, but on in four. Miss Robertson just missed a five and Miss Duncan, holing in five, took the match and the championship.

REDUCTION IN HANDICAP

MATCH AGAINST PATEA

The following handicap reductions have taken place among members of the Hawera Ladies’ Golf Club during the past week: Miss McLean with a card of 96 earns 21; Miss Wills 87, 12; Mrs Collier 108. 33; Mrs Anderson 94, 19. In the remaining semi-final of the senior championship Mrs Duncan beat Mrs Dalgctty 4 and 3. On Friday a match has been arranged with Patea and players will be notified by the match committee in due course.
