New Vacuum Manager

Mr E. A. Callannn, who succeeds Air H. GVCornforth at Melbourne as, chairman and' m'anagiiig director oiK flic .Vacuum Oil Company Pty. Ltd., arrived in Auckland this week en route from the! United States to Australia. Mr ICbrnforth, who is retiring from these positions upon the advice of liis medieal adviser after thirty-three years of service with the company, will retain a seat on the board, so that the company will still have the benefit of ibis long experience. Mr Callanan was born near Springfield, Mass., on, a farm Which the Callanan family has owned for more than four generations. World War, and served as a captain in charge of an army aviation training school in the United States and later saw service overseas. <■ i .

After the war he became/ connected with the General Motors Corporation. Starting in a minor capacity in one of the firni’s auto plants, he later became .European regional shies manager for G’enferal Motors, with headquarters in London. Prior to*that, he also had filled the post of general sales manager of the >export division of the company. Resigning from the General Motors Corporation he joined the Vacuum Oil Company and learned the oil business in all its-' departments.
