OHAWE SURF CLUB

PREPARING FOR NEW SEASON ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. A tribute to the members who had remained at home and patrolled the beaches while the competition team was away at various contests during the season was paid ,by the president of the Ohawe Surf W. J. Claringbold, in moving x.he~ adoption of the annual report (already published) at the annual meeting of members last night. He also- referred to the excellent relations which existed between the club and the Ohawe Beach Improvement Society. There was a good attendance of members, Mr Claringbold being in the chair.

The Ohawe Beach Improvement Society wrote a letter of appreciation of the services of the club during the past season, the letter being received with gratification. The president remarked that it was just another instance of the amicable relations which existed between the two bodies. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mi* J. E. Campbell; president, Mr W. J. Claringbpld; vicepresidents, Messrs P. O. Veale, F. O. Foden, P. G. Bamford and the presidents of the Ohawe Beach Improvement Society and the Hawera Swimming Club; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Tarrant; club captain, Mr A. Ryan; committee, Messrs F. Potter, C. Dowdle, O. Brown, and the club captain and the secretary; hon. surgeons, Drs. J. Cairney and W. M. Thomson; auditor, Mr F• Potter; delegates to i the Surf Association, Messrs Clcringbold and Ryan. Tributes were paid to the retiring secretary, Mr Max Nelson, who did not seek re-election. Mr Nelson had carried out his duties in a most efficient manner, and had had! the interests of the club very much at heart, stated the president. It was decided to commence the weekly practices next week, Tuesday being decided on as the most suitable night for “dry” practices. Conditions governing a competition for a shield donated by an anonymous donor were discussed, it being finally decided to allot the shield for competition .between any teams, the points to be as follows: March past 10, land drill 10 and water work 20. The shield is to be known as the “Ohawe” Shield and the. date of the competition will be decided by the centre. It was decided to make an active canvass for honorary members of the club.
