ENDEAVOUR WINS AGAIN

Creates New Record for Triangular Course LEADS AT ALL MARKS MARGIN OF 51 SECONDS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 11.10 p.m. to-day. NEWPORT, Sept. 18. The Endeavour won the second of the series of seven races for the America Cup, beating the Rainbow by olsec., after leading at all marks. The Endeavour’s time was 3hrs. 9min. lsec., w-hich is a record for the triangular course. Although the Endeavour won by a smaller margin to-day, her victory was even more impressive than yesterday’s. She set a new cup record for the. 32mile triangular course and overcame the ■handicap of a torn sail and a slow start, in which the Rainbow crossed the line' ahead/but was unable to maintain the lead.

The British yacht was ahead at each, leg—-15 . seconds in the first leg, sailed; in a breeze freshening from nine knots at the start, and 89 seconds on the second leg. Mr Vanderbilt managed to’ cut down this lead on the 10-mile run home, but his craft was not fast enough to overhaul his opponent. The Endeavour had all the hard luck, aside from the torn jib and the late start. She lost control of reaching jib as she rounded the first mark and once more lost precious seconds at' the 20-mile mark, sheeting in the jib again. The race during its middle course was sailed in a 14-knot breeze, but it drop- 1 ped down again to nine knots at the finish. Despite the torn sail, the rent in which grew more noticeable as the race progressed, Mr Sopwith apparently | gambled on the canvas holding out for. the duration of the contest. Another rent soon appeared, but Mr Sopwith held, only sending up a quadrilateral jib in stops ready to break it out if, the other gave way entirely.
