STRATFORD HOSPITAL SYSTEM
IMPORTANT CHANGES MADE. PRIVATE! DOCTORS ADMITTED important changes in the system of ‘administration hitherto observed by the' Stratford Hospital were decided upon by the board at its monthly meeting yesterday. For* some time the board has had under consideration the establishment of an open hospital for medical practitioners, but the suggestion has been negatived. At yesterday’s meeting the board passed, after a good deal of discussion, the following resolution, movpd by Mir L. Bunn and Mrs M. T. Phillips: “That the board appoint a full-time medical superintendent, without the right of private practice, and that the position be offered to the present medical superintendent, Dr. D. Steven, at a , salary not exceeding £6OO per year, and in the event of' his non-ac-ceptance the position be advertised at £SOO per annum, with a yearly increment of £25 for four years.” Messrs M. Gernboefer and G. P. Harkness moved as an amendment that consideration of the appointment be deferred until after the election of members in May, 1935. This was lost. The chairnian (Mr W. L- Kennedy) and Messrs Gernhoefer and Harkness voted for the amendment and Messrs P. Anderson, Ij. Bunn, J. Cormick and Mesdames Phillips and Shannon against it.
It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Cormick and Bunn, that the new position be put into effect on January 1, 1935, and that from that date outside doctors be admitted to the hospital to attend their patients. On the motion of Messrs Cormick and Anderson it was decided to offer the position of superintendent to Dr. Steven at a salary of £6OO, plus a free house not exceeding £IOOO in value.
