Princess Marina Arrives at Balmoral Castle

Marina from her car after her arrival at Balmoral Castle, after which Their Majesties, Princess Marina and her parents and Prince George exchanged their first private greetings in the Castle Hall. His Majesty led Princess Marina by the hand round the grounds, where six of His Majesty’s pipers encircled them and played a Vild Highland welcome.

Their Majesties and Princess Marina’s parents discussed the date and arrangements for the wedding, while Prince George drove the Princess over the Highland hills. A small Girl Guide after waiting an hour to see Princess Marina arrive at Victoria station was given permission to present her with a bouquet and was rewarded with a charming smile. The Girl Guide was Helen Stamataki. The car had started, but Prince George called a halt to receive the bouquet, which was from the Greek colon}- in London. The Royal lovers were given an enthusiastic reception at all stations, crowds on the platforms cheering. At Grantham Princess (Marina leaned out of a window and shook hands with 200 people. The Duke and Duchess of York and Princess Elizabeth met the train at Ballater. Prince George in Highland dress stepped out and helped Princess Marina to alight. Princess Marina warmly kissed the Duchess and Princess Elizabeth and then the couple entered the King’s car w-hile a guard of honour of Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders presented arms, and drove slowly to Balmoral through enthusiastic crowds.
