W.D.F.TJ. MEETING

.The monthly meeting! of the Otakeho 'branch of the W.D.F.U. was held on Friday. Mrs McDonald presided over a good attendance. A letter of thank® was received from the secretary of the “Smith Family,” Wellington, for ‘clothing sent by the members. It was decided not to exhibit at the Hawera summer show this year on account or the work it entailed.. Mesdames J. McDonald and A. WaL ker were appointed delegates to attend the South Taranaki executive meeting, to be held in Hawera. A competition, to be ready for next meeting, was left in the hands of • Mesdames- Caigou, Davis .and Bell: Miss Violet MacMillan, Rhodes Scholar in home science, wrote offering I her services once more to the institute.—lt was unanimously decided to accept the offer. It was decided to obtain for sale, several articles' made -by disabled soldiers in Christchurch. After community singing, a debate was held on the question as to which was the superior, the modem girl or the Victorian. Mrs H. Corkill acted as judge. After considerable amusement the decision went to the supporters of the modern girl. Mrs Corkill was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her judging and also for her helpful suggestions in connection with future debates. At the conclusion of the meeting afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Bell, A. Ross, El. T. Burke, Myhill and D Davis. PERSONAL AND GENERAL Mrs Bennett, Wellington, is visiting her daughter, Mrs M. C. Mclntyre, Okaiawa. Messrs Nichols and Freeman were visitors to Patea for the recent Taranaki amateur boxing championships. The monthly meeting of the Otakelio Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs Mackie early in the month. Mr Solomon presiding, the usual business was transacted. Mr Mackie was successful in annexing a number of first prizes at the flower show held in Manaia last week, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church.
