WOMEN’S DIVISION.

The monthly meeting of the Manaia W.D.F.U. was held, on Tuesday when Mrs Paterson presided and there were present Mesdarnes Walters, Bloor, Byrne, Huckstep, French, Merrie, jßeadon (2), Misses Hughes and Scott. A competition for the best article made from a yard of cretonne was won by Mrs B. Readon. Mrs French was judge. An exchange of plants took place. A motion'of sympathy with Mrs E. Bennett in the recent loss of her home by fire was carried. It was decided to hold a “bring and buy” on Tuesday, October 2. in the Presbyterian hall. It was reported that one distress case was dealt with during the month. A competition for a tin of tea. was w6n by Mrs Proudfoot. Afternoon tea was served by Misses Scott and Hughes. SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION. His Grace Archbishop O’Shea-, of Wellington, was "fhe guest of the Rev. Father Butler for the week-end and celebrated 9.30 Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, when there was a large congregation. His Grace preached on the Gospel of the Day and Catholic action., and at the evening service administered to over 40 candidates the Sacrament of Confirmation, a. very large congregation again being present. The Archbishop preached on the great Sacrament of Confirmation and exhorted each candidate to stand by its principle. PERSONAL. Mr W. T. Wnren. of the post office staff at Waitotara, is visiting friends in Manaia.
