SENTENCE OF PRISONERS
DUNEDIN SUPREME COURT. MAN DEEMED SUBNORMAL. (By Teiegraph —Press Association.) DUNEDIN', May 2. In the Supreme Court the following prisoners were sentenced by Mr Justice Kennedy. , . ‘ Peter McCormick, breaking, entering and theft, 18 months’ reformative de jameT’Storey, fraudulently stating that he had posted a postal packet containing money, two years' probaEric Norman Vincent and George Dore, breaking, entering and theft, each two years’ hard labour. James Alexander Spence Tapp, incest, three years’ hard labour, ins Honour, referring to the prisoner s subnormality, said it seemed true that he was. to be pitied and that in Ins family history there was some explanation of his crime and the indifference to its serious nature. If it- should appear that Tapp was definitely subnormal and that the proper place was a mental hospital, the Prisons Board would act. . ~ Alexander Robert Spence and Maicraret Spence, for attempted false pretence in connection with a fire in the Ranfnrlv Hotel, were each fined £IOO, in default six months’ imprisonment.
