Hie death of Mr William H. Wooding a former '.secretary to the United States Treasury, is reported in a cable from New York. He had been suffers ing from a. throat ailment. He resigned from the Treasury several months ago, when lie suffered a breakdown in Jjfcealth. Mr Will Hutchens, of Wanganui and formerly of Hawera, and Mr Edgar Bainton, newly-appointed director of the State Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, are to be associated l in the judging of the principal choral sections and tlie. pianoforte championships at the City of Sydney Eisteddfod, which will he held from August 27 to September 8. The death has occurred suddenly- of Dr. David Eardley Fenwick, 0.8. E., aged 47 yeans, states a Wellington Press Association message. • Dr. Fenwick, a son of Sir Geo. Fenwick, was born at Dunedin. He was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and Otago University and completed his medical’ studies in ESngland. He was captain of the Otago University Rugby team in 1910 and was a member,of the New Zealand University representative team to Sydney, that year.. During the war he served in the Royal Army Medical. Oorp and New Zealand MedU;, cal Cbrp, holding the rank of Lieuten-ant-Colonel, ami was officer commanding the Queen Mary Hospital for nervous diseases at Ha inner Springs. He was later examiner in. medicine to the New Zealand University, a anember of the Royal Commission on tuberculosis in New Zealand in .1928, chairman of-, the .executive council of the- B.M.AV*V New Zealand Branch, during, 1930-31; and was the author of various articles ip medical journals.
