BISHOP DEFIED
WAIKATO CHURCH TROUBLES REFUSAL TO VACATE LOCK ON CHURCH DOORS, POLICE ATTEND WEDDING CEREMONY. (By Tefegrapn—Press Association.; CAMBRIDGE, May 3. Following a meeting of parishioners of St. Andrew’s Church on Tuesday night, when Bishop Cherringt-an temporarily took charge of the parish living, which had previously been, declared vacant, the doors of the church were found locked yesterday. This was following on the vicar’s refusal to hand over the keys. The bishop’s warden, Mr C. AA r . Boyce, and the newly-elected church officers visited the ciiuroh yesterday and removed the locks and opened the church doors under the bishop’s instructions.
Last evening a wedding was held in; the church, the police being in attend-: ance.
The Rev. Mr Bell maintains his attitude and will stay on in the parish. The bishop has already advertised, services for next Sunday.
