WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
TAIPOROHENUI MEETING. The. monthly meeting of the Taiporohoi ini Maori AV onion’s Institute was held in the liall last week. Mrs. Panenui, the president, welcomed visitors from To Itoti and Tawhiti, and also two new members, Mrs. Toka and Miss AV. Panenui. Airs. Panenui and Mrs. Governor were elected delegates to the council meeting at Inglewood. Miss Corrigan gave the members a very interesting talk on her travels in Europe and Mr. Toka gave an instructive demonstration on the making of a piupiu (Maori mat) from flax and pointed out the number of different processes the flax had to go through. Votes of thanks were aeoerded Miss Corrigan and Mr. Toka. Tlie competition for the month was an article not to cost more than Is and was won by Airs. M. It. Jones, with Afrs. Campbell and Airs. Rungiwahia equal second. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Bishaw and Pokere.
