RESCUE OF TWO AIRMEN
FORCED DOWN IN CHANNEL INDIAN AND AUSTRIAN AID OF FRENCH FISHERMEN. (British Official Wireless.) Received 12.20 p.m. to-day. RUGBY, May 2. Two airmen, Gudzar, 19 years old, an Indian of Bombay, and M. Hell, of Vienna, aged 20, made a forced landing in a fog over the channel during the night wlien their petrol .supply was exhausted. Distress' signals were observed by the crew of a French fishing boat which was 18 miles to the northwest of Dieppe and both airmen were rescued, having suffered 1 no injury apart from a few bruises. The airmen, who had been undergoing advanced aviation instruction at Southampton, were returning from the air pilots’ conference at Geneva, when the mishap occurred.
