Ransom) at the last meetmer of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union that land-owners bounded by unoccujied Crown lands and native lands be assisted to erect rabbit-proof fenipes on rabbit-infested country was replied to by letter received from Mr Ransom at. to-day’s executive meeting. The Minister stated that tKe_ Government could not assume financial responsibility in a general way. 'but so far as the Lands Department was concerned, if such landowners had been financially assisted by way of a loan, iPDlicaiions for further assistance for the erection of rabbit-proof fences would bo si von consideration on their merits'.
