A ballot for the directorate of the Australian Mutual Provident Society resulted in the re-election of Sir Samuel Hordern and Mr W. A. Mackay by largo majorities, states a Sydney cable. Mr Frank Glasgow, of Wellington, one of the All Blacks of 1905, has been for some days the guest of Mr and Mrs J. O’Sullivan, of Matapu, and plans to leave for his home in a day or two. Mr Glasgow recently underwent a serious operation and is now progressing well. The Duke of Connaught, uncle of the King, celebrated his 84tli birthday on Tuesday, states a British Official Wireless message.
Mr Noel O’Connor, a son of Mr Arthur O’Connor, Australian travel representative, in a competition open to all American students, won one of two scholarships awarded annually by the Harvard University School for Architecture, states a Vancouver cable. Mr B;. B. Tennent, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture in Otago and Southland, has been appointed director of the fields division in succession to Mr J. W. Deem, who has retired on superannuation, states a Dunedin Press Association message. Mr Tennent lias been in charge of the fields division in Otago and Southland for several years. He came to Dunedin 14 years ago after special courses of study in Scotland, which followed 13 years in the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture.
On (Monday evening Mr and Mrs T. Trask, of Hawera, celebrated their golden wedding at the residence of their daughter, Mrs 'E. Harris, Egmont Street, Patea. During the evening, which was spent with cards and games, numerous congratulatory telegrams and gifts were received. Mr Trask responded to the toaslt of the bride and bridegroom, which was accorded musical honours. A two-tiered cake was lit with 50 candles and was cut by ’• and Mrs Trask. They have returned to the district after a healthrecruiting trip, Mr Trask having made a good recovery from serious nlness some months ago.
