AUCKLAND, April 30. The annual meeting of the Northland Trotting Club was held at Alexandra Park in showery weather today, although the sun shone after the fourth race. The trade was heavy. There was- a fair attendance, and the totalisator handled £13,735 compared with £4565 last year, when the meeting was held in wet weather at Cambridge. ... , . The winner was fourth favourite and paid a fair dividend. Auburn Lad broke up 'badly at the start, while Red Shadow apd Lindbergh also dwelt slightly. Harold Logan led out from Impromptu, with Red Shadow right up on the rails ahead of Worthy Light and Lindbergh. Passing the stands Red Shadow went through oil the fence to lead from Worthy Light, who* had .followed him through on the rails. Nearing home the field bunched and Auburn Lad was cheeked and sent to a break, leaving Red Shadow in front of Impromptu, I Harold Logan and Worthy _ Light. Impromptu finished best to win narrowly from Red Shadow, with Harold Logan close ny> third. An inquiry was held into the'cheeking of Auburn: Lfltl, but it was found the driver went for an opening and failed to get through. No further action was taken. After leading all the way JeweL Pointer, the limit horse and fourth favourite, narrowly defeated Anhuin Lad (Australia), with Impromptu third in the Northland Handicap.
