AWATUNA

FAREWELL TO MINISTER (iFrom Our Own Correspondent.) Last Saturday evening a farewell function was held in honour of the Rev. and Mrs ;S. Webb, of Opunakc, who are leaving to live at iSumner, near 'Christchurch. The Awatuna Presbyterian Church was filled with friends to farewell their esteemed minister and his wife. ,Sacred solos were sung, by Mrs Johnson and 'Miss Taylor and by the ißev. and Mrs Webb. Recitations were also rendered by Mr T. McCarrison and Mr J. Tosland, who afterwards extolled the great work accomplished in the district by Mr Webb. He had greatly assisted the church, not only spiritually, but had put it on a sound ’basis. The two gues'ts were then presented with a handsome travelling rug, while ■Mrs Webb was handed also a beautiful cut glass vase. The Awatuna Bible class presented ■Mr Webb with a Bible as a small token of their appreciation of his guidance. I The recipients suitably responded, ! expressing the pleasure, kindness and j hospitality they had always received j everywhere, whil their work had piovcd a duty of love. The Rev. Woods, of Huntcrville, will take up the Presbyterian work as successor to the Rev. Webb. PERSONAL The Rev. E. iSwimerd, of Christchurch, is Visiting Awatuna and is the guest of IMr and Mrs Farquhar, senr. 1 The Rev. Swiniord, who is 81 years of I :i oo, is still halo and hearty, and will J conduct a service at Awatuna shortly.
