While 5000 officers are fruitlessly searching for John Dillinger, the notorious gangster, the sheriff of the southern California community singlehandedly showed how supposedly desperate men can be handled. Yesterday two convicts escaped from San Quentin penitentiary, th« first such break for many years. Officials quickly broadcast a warning that they, “next’to Dillinger.” were the most dangerous criminals at large m America. On their flight southern cl. however, the sheriff recognised them.
