PLAY UNDER THE PROVINCIAL SCHEME
TUKAPA’S runaway victory over opunake
CLIFTON WIN BY DISPUTED POTTED GOAL
WINS TO HAWERA, PATEA AND OKAIAWA
The Taranaki senior Rugby competition commenced on Saturday with play for the first time for some years under the provincial, or McLeod, scheme. Weather conditions were ideal and there were good attendances at most fixtures. High scoring was a feature of two games. Playing at New Plymouth, Tukapa trounced Opunake by 34 points to six, and at Stratford Hawera beat United Old Boys by 25 points to 16. A potted goal, the subject of dispute, decided the game between Clifton and Stratford at Waitara, the former winning by 12 points to 8. At Eltham, Patea luckily beat the home team by nine points to six in a Very close game, and Okaiawa, playing at Hawera, beat an Empire Old Boys scratch team by 9 points to nil. New Plymouth Old Boys, playing at New Plymouth, beat Star by 14 points to 11, and Inglewood beat Kaponga by nine points to three on the latters' ground.
