ROME, April 28. The King opened what is expected will be the last Italian Parliament owing to Signor Mussolini’s plan to place economic legislation in the hands of a National Council of Corporations, while the other powers will be ’vested in the Fascist Grand Council.
His Majesty emphasised that Ital.v desired peace for the longest period possible, the greatest guarantee ol which was the efficiency of Italy’s armed forces. Ho stressed the necessity for balancing the budget and affirmed adherence to the £rold standard. He recalled a statement made when he inaugurated the legislature lr April, 1929, that State action in modern societies could not be limited tc social life.
“Italy has been an advance guard leading the way to a new form of Government,” he declared. “Indeed Italy did not await the world crisis in the autumn of 1929 in order to ensure better discipline controlling economic forces, in which it has been followed by other nations, although by different means. It is now evident- the non tasks can oidy be achieved by tb< changes in the constitution which Italians accepted in the election of March 25.
It was noticed that Signor Mussolini, when reading the oath to the King to deputies, omitted the customary words “and his Royal successors.”
