CANDLE IGNITES BENZINE. MAN SUFFERS BURNS. By ’rewgiapu —rreaa Association, i AUCKLAND. April 29. The upsetting of a bottle of benzine near a lighted candle on Saturday evening caused burns to the arm ol T. A. Grant, Grev Lynn, and set fire to the house. Mr. Grant was pouring some benzine into a bottle on a work bench under the house when the bottle toppled over, spilling the contents. The benzine was ignited by the fames reaching the candle Mr. Grant, whose left arm was burned by benzine which was spilled on it, immediately rushed to a street signal and gare the alarm. The interior of the workshop under the house was gutted and the flames had just begun to penetrate the floor above and to travel up the outside wall when they were extinguished. The injured man was taken to the Auckland hospital.
