ANNUAL AIEF.TTNG OF DELEGATES.

Twenty-throe delegates from affiliated clubs attended the annual meeting in Stratford last- evening of the Taranaki Ladies’ Hockey Association The president (Air: H. C. .Johnson) 'occupied the hair.

“This season showed a, marked advance in the number of affiliated clubs and it is gratifying to have affiliated an eastern division with headquarters at AVhangamomona,” stated the' annual report. “AVhile some clubs at New Plymouth paid a small affiliation foe to enable them to play in tournaments, no regular competition was instituted there.” Pihama won the Taranaki championship, the report continued, the combined’ tournament on June 3, which was entirely successful both as regards entries and the standard'of play. Pihama won only after a hard struggle Stratford Old Girls and then went on to do the “hat trick” by annexing the Kowhai Shield

Lit Inglewood. The representative team which was sent to the Dominion tournament at Dannevirke did not win any of the trophies, but gave a good ucount of itself. The team played and beat Rangitikei on the return trip. Junior hockey had not made the progress that could bo desired. Only four teams competed, but they made a keen competition, which was eventually won by the S.T.H.S. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £3 2s 4d All clivisious were keenly contested by players who played hockey as it should be, the chairman remarked. The girls who went with the representative team to the New Zealand tournament benefited greatly from the experience they had gained. Difficulties with regard to referees not being available for matches were overcome by the efficient Referees’ Association, which provided qualified representatives for nearly 4very game last year. The financial position was satisfactory, as it had never been the policy of the association to build up a large reserve, but rather to give the players every benefit from the fund. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Officers elected for. the ensuing year were: Patron, Mr. S. J. Catran; president, Mr. H. C. Johnson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs C. Davies and A. It. dower; secretary and treasurer, Miss M. Young; delegate to New Zealand Association, Mr. R. Frothy; management. committee, Messrs M. Priest, El. Riley, N. E. Jorv, H. Nodder and C. J. AlcFadyen and Miss H. Guy; June 3 tournament committee, Messrs Johnson, Priest and Riley. Divisions in the south and east were arranged as follows : East, V. hangamomona, Kohuratahi and Tangarakau; south, Auroa, Oeo, Pihama, Otakeho, Manaia, Tokaora, Rarhblers and Rovers. New Plymouth delegates pointed out that there were only three teams in the northern Saturday division last year and the players wanted, if possible, to play with teams outside Now Plymouth. ’“lt is the half-holiday question that causes the trouble,” the chairman remarked. “Waitara has no team this] year, but if it had it would be a Thursday team and would not be able to play the New Plymouth teams. I have heard that Urenui might have a team.” If no more teams could be raised for the Saturday competition it might be possible for New Plymouth to put a team into the Central Taranaki Thursday competition, Mr E. Foster said. However, an enlarged Saturday competition was what was most desired. The matter was placed in the hands of the management committee. The teams concerned are: New Plymouth (2) and Y.W.O.A. (Saturday) Inglewood, Stratford Old Girls, Stratford High School, Eltharn and. Kaponga selectors were appointed as follows: South, Messrs A. Petty and It. McKoy; east, to he appointed by Eastern Sub-Association; north. Air. R, J. Alontgomerie; central Mr. H. O. Johnson; independent, Air. Al. Pl Eltham was given permission to hold a seven-a-side tournament on Mav 24 and New Plymouth to have a competition for a locally donated cup.
