HAWERA TRACK WORK (By “Limited.”) Ideal conditions prevailed for training operations at the Hawera racecourse yesterday. The plough track was used for all important work and was in good order. Caretaker Morse is busy reconditioning the brush fences for the coining steeplechase meeting and they will be ready any time now.

Aga Khan was given plentv -of trotting exercise and Diagano did slow pace work. Gibraltar (Shields) went at half pace to the half-mile, where he was picked up by Sandlark (Feasey), the pair running homo in 51) sec. with Sandlark in front.

Round Table (Coyle) again finishrhalf a length in front of Royal Peak (Grylls) over half a mile, covered in 51 3-5 see. R.uri and Silk Sox were allotted steady half-pace work. oriel (Conway), after pacing a round., strode over the last six furlongs' of his second lap comfortably in 1.244. Richfield (Conway) and Fantastic (Grylls) went a round of ’ the schooling hurdles. Richfield stopped badlv at the far fence and getting in too close was nearly down at the last obstacle, Conway cleverly avoiding a fall. Fantastic lumped snlendidly. St. Clara (Mills) moved freel- over a couple of rounds of steady pace work and will be ready to send along seriously any time she is wanted.

After pacing a round Stanchion (Feasey) and Chief Lin© (Shield) sprinted three furlongs in 3S 1-5 sec. Chief Lin© was going the' better at the finish. The Tiger (Cochrane)) did steady half pace work on the inside, where Beau Star (Brough) went a solid round. Rose Ray (Brough) .cantered found to the three furlongs, be big picked up by Friesland (Coyle). The pair finished together in 38£ sec. ' Taitoru (Feasey) who has shaken off the effects of his cold, bowled along freely over a round of half-x>aee work. Monaghan went a couple of rounds of half-pace exercise. Ingenuity did slow work W. Brough’s Colossus youngster is furnishing well and getting through liis work” satisfactorily. , \ The Limond—Lady Bentinek yearling, Golden Promise, under 0. Cox’s care, is being ridden regularly and impresses greatly. He is doing remarkably well and on appearance should develop into a top notcher. The performances of Jonathan attracts attention to his yearling halfsister by Limond, under J. Brown’s care. This filly is developing nicely and is getting through her preliminary education satisfactorily. J. Brown returned on Wednesday with Carfex. Carfex’s injury, though not serious, will necessitate treatment for a few days. He returned in spendid condition after his racing and his connections were unlucky that he was unable to take his place in the Autumn Handicap at Avondale. Davistoek, who received liis early education at Hawera under Q. Cox, is now an inmate of The Swell Lodge at New Plymouth. Davistoek was never a strong constitutioned horse, requiring special care in his preparation. Cox, however, won three races with Davistoek as a three-year-old. Davistoek was also placed ten times.
