HONOURED j COACHING IN QUICKSTEP The excellent service given to the I Hawera Municipal Band by Staff Ser-! goant-Aliajor Stevens, of the Defence j Department, in training the members i for the quickstep was .fittingly ackneiw- ( lodged last night at the band social in j the Foresters’ Hall. He was the re-1 eipient of a large photograph of the band as a reminder of his help. In making the presentation Mr C. J. ; Roberts, secretary, said that SergeantMajor Stevens had done an almost incalculable service to the band for he had, every year in succession, given time and energy in coaching members in the quickstep for the contests. It was hard to over praise the service given and the committee and members were most grateful. There was no dovlbt. said Mr Rhbevts, the work done hy Sergeant-Major Stevens had contributed in 110 small degree to- the efficiency of the band. In a, brief reply Sergeant-Major Stevenr; said lie was. keenly interested in the band’s wort and he was very glad a.t all times to be of service. A very enthusiastic reception was given to the guest of the evening.
