The new scale of telegraph charges was siulbjected toi criticism to-day by the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, and it was decided to support the protest by the Dunedin chamber recently forwarded: to the Postmaster-General. The members resented) the idea of being penalised inequitably becaaise of Southland ts geographical position, which they contended made the scale of charges to southern higher than wais the ease of, say, Wellington, with a consequent increase in (business expenses. “It amounts almost to another tax,’.’ said tfie chairman, Mr O. 8.. Tapley, “and there is too much taxation already.”
