LIMITS OF ARMAMENTS
OBJECTIVE OF FRENCH NOTE PRESENT METHODS DOOMED “HOPELESSLY OUT OP DATE.” GERMAN EQUALITY QUESTION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright).
LONDON, April 7. The keynote of the French Note in reply to inquiries from Britain is that disarmament talks are doomed and will 'be replaced by the question of limitation of armaments. The Note points out that the British plan of a ten years’ disarmament convention in_ vplving German equality is “hopelessly out of date’’ in view of Germany’s swollen military estimates and possible intention to rearm farther.
Recent developments in the disarmament situation were discussed at a meeting at the Foreign Office between Sir John Simon. Foreign Secret tary, and Mr Norman Davits, the United States’ representative at the Disarmament Conference. CONVENING OF COMMISSION. FRENCH SUPPORT INDICATED. PARIS, April 7. M. Barthou has assured Mr Arthur Henderson, chairman of the Disarmament Conference, that France would support a proposal to convene the Disarmament Conference commission on April 23. Mr Henderson. when interviewed, result in a convention, though probably said it was certain a meeting would some nations would not sign.
