CONTACT WITH 5000 VOLTS
ENGINEER'S NARROW ESCAPE. HIAIWERIA POWER. HOUSE ACCIDENT. 'Coming in contact with a 5000-volt line R. V. Jackson, an employee oi the 'South Taranaki Power Board, had m narrow escape from death at the board’s generating station at- Normanby last Thursday. Mr Jackson, who is engineer m charge of the power station, w as exaininging. one of the panels in the main switchboard when his head came m con tact with three wires. A terrific shock rendered him unconscious for sonicminutes and he was burned on the crown of the head, on one hand and one foot, and he also injured a shoulder when the force of the shock threw him against a beam. Respiratory measures were immediately applied by employees at the station, and A.r Jackson was conveyed to l\i» home artor receivin 0 * medical treatment. Although not able to resume work. Mr Jackson is not seriously incapacitated, and is making good progress towards recovery.
