The question of ragwort elimination or control was again before Eltham County Council on Saturday as the outcome of a letter received from the Taranaki Local Bodies Association advising that a meeting of ratepayers would he held at Stratford on March 9(> to interview Hon. O. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, in connection with noxious weeds administration and control. , , x-r The Inspector of Stock at Hawera (Mr H. R. Denize) wrote in connection with the appointment of Mr H. E. vVilliams was gazetted on Novembei Noxious Weeds Act, advising that Mr Williams so so gazetted on November 23 1923. He was vested with ail the necessary authority to enable him to enforce the provisions of the Act over all lands in the Eltham County. The chairman (Cr A. D. Campbell) said they had long discussions year after year, and he did not know it they did much good. Or Tt. J. Knuckey said the position was undoubtedly serious, and on his motion it was agreed that as many councillors as were able should attend the deputation so as to _ show that they considered the position really serious. . It was resolved to give the inspector the necessary power to. take proceedings against offenders. A councillor remarked that the ranger was gazetted an inspector, and all he required was the necessary powers. This resolution would show that the council was resolved to take drastic action, because the weeds were spreading to all parts of the county.
