SEASIDE SOCIETY. QUEEN GAR NT ALYL CAMPAIGN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A general meeting of the Opunake Seaside Society* and all cornival committees was held in St'. Patrick’s Hall on Thursday evening, M>\ Cl 0. Edmonds (president) presiding over an attendance of 50. The main business of the meeting was regarding arrangements in connection with the carnival. It was resolved that this should end on April 20. Air. L. AA’hiting appeared to arrange two nights of picture entertainment for each of the three candidates, making a total ol' six nights, on a 50 per cent, basis. A vote ot thanks was accorded Mr. Whiting for his generous offer. It was decided to make each vote worth 3d, and votes to be handed in to the general secretary on Mondays and Thursdays at 1 p.m., when the leading candidate will be indicated by a flag. Votes would not be published until the last week of the carnival. Mr. Smith was elected general carnival secretary-. A general committee, consisting o; I the president and secretary of (lie society* and the chairman and secretary of each of the candidates’ committee, was elected co organise and control the final week of the carnival. Following the general meeting the secretary*’s committee met. Present were Messrs Edmonds (in the chair). Cl H. Marc-rot’t, C. M. Clare, J. Barney*, A. Lambie, Dr. Griffin, L. Brown, D. McCrone and S. M. Smith (secretary). The treasurer (Mr. Brown) presented a balance-sheet, in connection with the recent gala. This .showed a credit balance of £27 5s 3d. This was adopted and the society’s thanks are due to Air. Gamlin for his services, to Mr. Quin and all who assisted on the day, and the ladies for their work at the dance. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Malcolm for organising the concert in aid of the society*’.s and surf club’s funds. The Electric Power Board wrote donating £2 towards the cost of the alarm siren.

A vote of thanks was accorded Air. J. de Castro for his services in connection with the road work at the beach.
