BEWARE OF DANDRUFF
SERIOUS SKIN INFECTION. SUITABLE LOTION SUGGESTED. The white scales of dandruff, which fa'll on the shoulders when the hair is brushed, result from an infection or the skin. Mothers may infect their babies, and it is commonly spread by the brushes and combs of hairdressers. The complaint is well worth treating seriously, for, if you leave it alone, the irritation may set up a skin disease, or you may lose your hair. Wash or have your hair washed thoroughly with spirit .soap and soft water once or twice a week. At nighttime a suitable lotion should be -shaken on all over the head and well brushed A good plan is to part the hair and to- shake the lotion on to the partings. Here is a capital lotion: Salicylic acid, 90 grains; perchloride of mercury, * grain; Oleum Ricini, 5 minims; Oleum favandulae, 5 minims; industrial methylated spirit, loz. For men, this lotion can he made into a brilliantme by increasing the Oleum Ricini to 30 or minims. • .. ... The lotion must be persevered with for months, and sometimes even for years. Once the trouble has been got properly under control, it will .suffice to use the lotion two or three times a week, instead of nightly. _ If the lotion fails, an ointment to rub well in everv night may have to he substituted. ‘A favourite one conI tains salicylic acid and precipitated sulphur. But as this is rather a nuisance, most women will prefer to give the lotion a thorough and patient trial.
