NEW IDEAS FOR QUILTING.

One or two new expressions of the vogue for quilting may be of interest, writes one fashion correspondent overseas.

How do you like the idea of a suit of chestnut-brown dull-surfaee cloth, the skirt slim and straight, the jacket hip-length and without- fastenings, worn with jerkin, cap and glovegauntlets of quilted satin in a. lighter shade of brown ? It looks well.

The cap is one of the little pill-box affairs, made of a band to fit round the head and a circular crown to- fit into the head-band. The foundation cut in canvas, it is an easy matter to cover the two pieces with quilted satin

before joining them together. A,s: for the sleeveless jerkin, it is a question of quilting a lengtlx of satin, cutting a perfectly plain jumper from it. Let the jumper bo just below waist-lengtli and high at the neck, with button and buttonhole fastenings over the i.shoulders.

The gauntlets should present no problem, since we- have for long l>een adding decorative gauntlets to short gloves of silk, suede and kid. Another idea—the quilted shoulder cape for the evening. It can be made of the same material as the dress, or in one of a contrasting colour. Have it circular in shape, regulated to fitover the shoulders by means of small darts, and tied in front with ribbon to match, or else clipped under a posy of artificial flowers.
