ANTIQUE EHIBITION

PUBLIC INTEREST MAINTAINED. RECORD ATTENDANCES. The exhibition of antiques at the Winter Show Buildings in Hawera attracted record attendances of the public yesterday at both, day and evening sessions. Many country people were in town for the day and a steady stream of visitors passed through the doors from 10 o’clock onwards. The delicate workmanship that has made some of the specimens on display so valuable to collectors was studied closely and many were the delighted expressions in admiration of the beauty and worth of the collection as a whole.

China, which forms the hulk of the exhibition, attracted most attention. In special cases and scattered through- 1 out the many stands were found treasures; of the potters’ art in varied colours and styles of decoration. Some of the pieces are known to dealers and highly prized. The East holds a peculiar fascination for most people, and here and there in the exhibition are carved ivories, brass, figures and very old pottery which breathe an atmosphere of mystery. Pictures and lace, old daguerrotypes and delicate miniatures and countless other relics of bygone days formed other equally interesting sections which received close inspection. It has boon decided to continue the exhibition daily, with sessions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.ui., until Wednesday next (March 14V.
