TO MINISTER hi During his visit to Stratford on WedI nesday a request for assistance, towards I j completing the road from the StratI ford mountain house to the Stratford Plateau on Mount Egmont was, made to the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, by the chairman and the secretary of the Eiist Committee of the Egmont National Park Board (Messrs J. C. Robins and G. A. Career). (, Mr Robins recalled that when the Minister visited Stratford about five years ago as Minister of Public Works he was taken to the Stratford mounI tiiin house on a pouring wet day, when the road was in such a state that the ascent could he made only by cars . fitted with chains. Since then, Mr Robins said, a fine two-way, well graded j and metalled road had been made to i the house, chiefly through tho help : gjven the project by Mr Ransom. I New the committee had builf a road Ito the plateau, over two miles bevond the house and to a height of 4000 feet.Though the road was in good condition the committee needed a little money to finish the metalling, take out two j cuttings and put in one cutting. I Mr Robins also supported the application of the Park Board for a grant of £ooo. If each committee received £IOO a year he thought the committees would lie ahle to manage well. The Minister said he would deal with the application when he considered that of the North Committee for assistance.
