TENNIS ON SUNDAYS

—: -~p — PERMIT FOR SCHOOL* COURTS. BOARD ENDORSES DECISION. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. A motion by the chairman to rescind a resolution that tennis should be allowed on school courts on Sundays subject to the school committee’s assent was lost at to-day’s meeting or the Education Board. There was no discussion and the voting was t-lie same as that which carried the motion, seven to six. An executive meeting held last night refused by four votes to three a request from the Rev. Bramwell Soott that the board receive a deputation on the matter. A new by-law authorising school committees to allow Sunday tennis if they so desire was confirmed by today’s meeting of the board and a further discussion arose over the position of the Island Bay Tennis Club, whose lease with the board directly prohibits play on Sundays, these courts not being controlled by the school committee. This matter was deferred for a month pending an expression of legal opinion.
