FRASER ROAD MAORIS
CAMPAIGN FOR WHAREPUNI. The success and popularity of functions organised by the Fraser Road Maoris in aid of their wliarepuni (meeting house) building fund should ensure a very large attendance of the public tit the forthcoming first annual sports and gymkahna to be held on Mr W. Wynn’s property adjoining the Tawhiti Hall, on Wednesday, October 11. A programme of 40 events includes pony and horse events and ring, competitions, classes for dairy stock and home industries, athletic, field and cycling events, piping, and Swiss concertina contests, performances and games of skill by Maori parties and wrestling. The prize-winning horses and stock will, take part in a grand parade. A number of special prizes donated voluntarily by Messrs H. G. Dickie M.P., M.” F. Purser, L. Marter, H. Sargent and J. J. Goodwin, have been acknowledged and it lias been decided to offer a valuable enp and a silver, and crystal rose bowl valued at £ls for ponv and horse events. Nominations which close on "Wednesday evening next at 8 o’clock may be sent to the honorary secretary (Mr T. Whareitu) or to Messrs; L. Marter, W. J. Olaringbold or J. B. Laurenson. At the conclusion of the sports a. concert and dance will be held at the Tawhiti Hall in the evening when it is proposed to conduct a foxtrot championship competition.
