LONDON, Sept. 29.. A Chariiber of Commerce deputation to Lord Londonderry, the Secretary of Air, condemned) the slowness and 1 costliness of air mails and urged that no further contracts be made pending a full inquiry. Sir Geoffrey Clarke said. the Chamber strongly supported night flying, though it entailed the separation- of passenger and mail services. The cruising speeds of the British services were much too slow for modern methods. Continuous flying and faster machines would enable transport to Calcutta in .3} days, to Sydney in 7] and to Wellington in 8£ days. Meanwhile the mails should travel at least 2500 miles l daily. Flying and resting for 12 hours daily wiien trains and steamers travelled throughout the 24 hours, was reminiscent of the hare arid the tortoise.
