WOOLGROWERS’ PROPAGANDA
LADY REPRESENTATIVE OVERSEAS
ESTABLISHING CONTACTS WITH TRADE.
With the object of exploring, the possibilities of extending the overseas market for New Zealand wool by means of publicity campaigns in the countries concerned, Miss G. Valentine Howev, of Christchurch, secretary of Wool Publicity (N.Z.), left in May for England. A cable was received by the “Christchurch Press” recently, stating that Miss Howcy had conferred with leaders of the industry in Yorkshire, including Lord Barnby, who cabled to Mr. H. D. Acland, president of the Sheep Owners’ Federation, approving a proposal to form a council. VALUE OF ADVERTISING. In leaving New Zealand Miss Howey stated to a representative of “The Press’ ’ that it was well known that prices of commodities were ruled largely by demand, and the propaganda carried out in Australia and New Zealand during the last few years had proved the value of advertising in stimulating the demand for wool. Her endeavour was to bring the overseas manufacturers into touch with the growers in New Zealand, with the view to their co-operation in publicity campaigns, which might have very farreaching results. After publicity drives had been set in motion in England and on the Continent, the scheme might be extended to include the East, where it was felt that there was a huge potential market for New Zealand wool. It would be necessary, said Miss Howey, to persuade the Chinese to consume only one pound of wool a head a year to absorb the whole of the Australian clip and twice that of New
