Sympathy with the relatives of the late"' Mr T. H. Penn was expressed oy members of the Stratford Racing Club at a meeting this week. Mr Penn was auditor 1 of the Club for many years.

The death has occurred at Johannesburg of Mr Ernest Bird, Conservative neinber for Skipton (Yorkshire), the British Official Wireless reports.

The Rev. T. Bidden Taylor, of Wellington, will be the guest, of the Rev. H. Whitby James and Mrs James, at St. Mary’s parish vicarage, Hawera, during the week-end. Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon Mr Taylor will preach at Mokoia and also at the parish church in the evening.

A vote of sympathy with, the relatives of the late Mr. F. S. C. Livingston was passed at the monthly meeting of the Egmont A. and P. Association at Hawera yesterday. The president (Mr A. Hunter) recalled Mr. Livingston’s services 1 to the association as president and enthusiastic supporter and added that his father, •he late Mr. J. Livingston, had been a pioneer of the association. Due honour was paid Mr A- Allison, retiring commissioner of Government Life Insurance, at a function attended bv Mr P. Verschaffelt, Public Service Commissioner, departmental heads and others, the Press Association reports from Wellington. Mr W. E. Arnold, the new commissioner, wlic presided, announced that although they were saying farewell to Air Allison, they were not to lose him altogether as he Rad been appointed to an advisory position. There was a long cortege of friends and relatives at the funeral of the late Airs James Grant yesterday at the Hartera, cemetery. Beautiful wreatlns were sent * by' friends in many parts of the province. The Rev. J. lugofficiated at the funeral and the bearers were Messrs 0-. AlcGlade, S. Bolivia, S. Adamson, A. Appleyard, J. D. Laurenson and Percy Hall. A vote of sympathy with the bereaved, family was passed by the members of the committee of the Egmont A. and I'. Association yesterday. Mr. A. Hunter, the president, stating that Alr.s. Grant had been for twelve years a. leader m the work of the stewards. The meeting was adjourned so that members might attend the funeral.
