NIGHT SIGNPOSTS.

OLD REFLECTORS USED ASSOCIATION SCHEME ADOPTED. Under the amended motor regulations it is no longer compulsory for motor-cars to carry rear red reflectors, and therefore stocks of these fittings which are held by 7 the motor trade are of little use. A Gisborne motor firm offered their supply to the Auckland Automobile Association, which has utilised over 50 reflectors for placing on danger posts. These warnings have been erected on various hilly roads throughout the Gisborne district, and already many complimentary references have been made to the effectiveness of the warnings. The placing of danger and warning signs will be a feature o. the work of the association during the coming y 7 ear. Most of the main routes are fairly well signposted as far as directions are concerned, but the association is extending its services into more remote districts in the back country, where narrow roads and more difficult travelling are experienced. Many 7 times there are dangers which are quite apparent in the daytime, but which present a menace at night. Association officers are therefore carrying out investigations at night and under wet and foggy conditions. Un-i der these circumstances, some of the] new signs erected by the association j may appear to be unwarranted, butj the association makes a practice, of not] erecting a danger sign without fully investigating the danger, and motor j ists will be well advised to pay strict attention to any sign bearing the association’s monogram.
