WESTERN FLYING CLUBS

QUARTERLY MEETING HELD,

HAW-ERA PILOT CONGRATULATED The quarterly meeting of the Westernl Federated Flying Clubs was held at Wanganui on Wednesday, Mr A. ;S. Burgess presiding. The balance-sheet as at May 31 showed that the club’s bank accounts stood at £503 2s 9d, while the stock in hand was valued at £205 i6s 1-Od. Plant and tools were valued at £3G, rvkile the aeroplanes ZK-AAX and ZK-ABP were valued at £l7-30. It was -stated that a levy would not be required this year, although it might be wanted next year. A letter of congratulation is to -be sent to Mr B. Haybittle on -his securing a B license. It was stated that he was the first pilot in the federation to achieve the distinction.

It was decided that the work of repairing the machine ZK-ACH should be proceeded with gradually. It was stated by the secretary that the work would cost £4Ol 17s 8d .apart from labour. Notification of the proposal of the Manawatu Aero Club to affiliate with the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Clubs was received.

It was decided to secure shoulder straps for the use of pupils undertaking cross-country flights. It was stated that the harness must not be used to execute flying -manoeuvres not permitted by the committee. Miss J. Winstone applied: for reconsideration of the fine of £lO, which had been imposed on her for having run into the bowser pumps at the Wanganui Aero -Club grounds, with a plane. It was agreed that no reconsideration could be given, and that the fine would have to be paid. The recommendation of the Wanganui club that Mr F. Rowan, -caretaker, be given authority to issue all instructions and to control flying in the absence of the instructor, Flying-Officer Keith, and the club captain, Mr Gibbons, was adopted. Every breach made by members is to be reported in writing on such occasions. It was suggested that Mr Stroud act in a similar capacity at Ilawera, providing Mr Haybittle is agreeable.
