The. Bayly Memorial Scholarship sports were held at Stratford yesterday under adverse weather conditions, the winner being It. G. Parnell, New Plymouth, Boys’ High School. Thirtyfive competitors from 14 jTaranaki schools participated. Farnell was placed first because of better all-round ability. Although in three of the seven" events the standard wa,si not reached Farnell secured a place in six of [the seven events, breaking the standard mark in three of them. He was first equal with M. Fabish in the place kick second in the 100 yards, high jump, Jong jump and punt and third m the 440 yards, gained standard in the high jump, place-kick and punt and missed only in the drop-kick. His total was 180 points, the winner -last year at New Plymouth scoring 280. T. Crone, also from the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, was second with 160 points, gaining first place in the punt and high jump and second m the drop kick and three standards. L. Beale, of the Stratford Technical High School was third with 150 points’, wins in the long jump and a nicelyjudged 440 yards bringing up his total late in the afternoon after he had run third in the 100 vards.
