CAR SMASH ON POLE

VIOLENT SOOKBURN CR ASH ONE OF THREE MEN HURT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 27. A, spectacular motor smash occurred on the Main South Road at Sockburn early this morning when a five-seater car coming from the city failed to take a corner and violently crashed oil a power pole. The car finally rested with its rear- wheels on top of a liedge and the front wheels high up against the pole, so that it was possible to walk underneath.

The electric lines broke, but the occupants miraculously escaped death. T. Hamilton, of Riccarton, suffered head injuries and a fractured leg and was sent to hospital. His condition is not serious. S. Borton, of Opawa (the driver) and Clarence Burt, of Addington, were treated as outpatients and discharged.
