OFFERS OF REWARD'

RECENT AUCKLAND CASE Although seriously injured, Const-able E. E. Stewart, who was knocked from the running hoard of a. stolen ear in Grey Lynn, Arnold and, last week, continues to show improvement in hospital. Despite the most searching inquiries over an extensive area by Detective Sergeant A. G. McHugh and other members of the detective staff, the driven- of the stolen ear has not yetbeen traced. It is believed that shortly a reward will he offered by the police for the person who can give information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the man who drove the stolen car Already the Automobile Association has written to the Superintendent of Police, Mr S. Till, enclosing a cheque for £5 for Constable Stewart, in appreciation of his pluck and devotion to duty, and of the services he rendered in attempting to arrest the car thief. The Automobile Association also offered a similar sum as a reward for the detection of the offender. A citizen has also offered to .donate £SO as a reward. It is expected that an announcement will be made by the nolice, after the matter has been before the Commissioner of Police,
