contentions of Whitney and other Eastern horsemen in connection with the proposed Winooka-Equipoise race for 10,000 dollars. Mr. Naylor writes: “The disparaging remarks concerning Winooka’s eligibility to match with Equipoise are against racing facts. Winooka is recognised as the fastest sprinter produced in Australia and New Zealand. HAWERA TRACK WORK.

| THIS MORNING s G ALLOPS (By “Limited.”) Weather conditions were ideal at the Hawera racecourse this morning. Both the plough and -grass tracks were used and were in excellent order, although the former was not as fast 'as last, week owing to having been freshly disced. - On the grass No Doubt (Vaughan), Hooking fresh, scampered over three / furlongs in 36s.ee. J iWeatherzane (Shields) and Haunui f (Feasy) finished together over half a mile in olsec, Wea.tliefzane going the better at the finish. Aga Ivhan (,W. Pine) went a working gallop over six furlongs, doing 1.22 comfortably. Daiagano was'apportioned a similar task, neither being after time. On the plough St. Clara (M. Pine) and Richfield (W. Pine) were companions over four furlongs anti finished together in oik-sec. Flying East (Shields) and Ingenuity (Coyle) sprinted two furlongs in 27sec. Ingenuity showed improvement and is shaping -satisfactorily. Attentive (Shields) and Gibraltar (Feasy) galloped three furlongs, finishing together in 3Ssec. This was Attentive’s .first fast work for some time and lie -shaped well. Gibraltar’s performance was a- great improvement on his recent efforts." Ca-rfex was given easy exercise on the sand track.
