TARANAKI WINS TOURNAMENT EASY VICTORY IN FINAL The quadrangular primary schools’ Rugby football tournament at Levin concluded, yesterday, leaving Taranaki winners of the '.series. In the final Taranaki defeated Rangitikei bv 28 points to nil. Hutt bad .their first win, defeating Horowhenna iby 3 points to ml. Taranaki have had two wins and a draw, Horowhenna a win and a draw, and Hutt and Rangitikei a win each. The weather was fine and the ground sticky. Rangitikei early in their match against Taranaki received a free kick For olf side play, ibut failed to find the; line and the return kick put Taranaki again on the attack. 'Rucking play followed. From a line-out Crowe, the Taranaki five-eighth, received, was tackled, broke away, and sent Prime on to score between the posts. The kick failed.

From the kick-off play came to half-way, and a passing rush by Rangitikei was frustrated. A free kick to Taranaki for holding, the Rangitikei full-back being caught with the ball, saw Bamford find the uprights. Rangitikei was oni the defensive and eventually forced- down. TARANAKI BACKS IMPROVE Rangitikei then carried play into Taranaki’s twenty-five, but Cronin cleared witlli a nice kick. The Taranaki backs were now showing some good passing, but several attempts were stopped. At length Crowe received from a lme-ont, made a g-ood cut in, and .sent Riley on to score in a handy position. The kick a,t goal failed. Taranaki were yet to score again before half-time, ' when Whyte, the centre, with a determined run, beat the full-back. Again the kick failed, and ’half-time came with the .score Taranaki 12, Rangitikei 0. .Several sicr.ums in midfield marked the opening of the second spell. A free ldclc to Rangitikei by Twigg fail'd to find the line, and a good passing rush by Taranaki saw Prime race over for a clever try. Crowe s kic.c was .successfulTaranaki were now showing superiority, back and forward. Whyte, at centre, was troubling Rangitikei, and eventually Oner went over for a try. The kick failed. Play travelled again to Rangitikei > twenty-five, but a free kick to Rangitikei relieved the pressure. The Rang’tikei winger made a. .good run "to tne Taranaki twenty-five, but was pushed out. Again the kick failed. Play became very lively, and there were ‘ bright flashes on either side.
