AMATEUR ATHLETICS
.WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM L. A. NEWELL INCLUDED A decision to include L. A. Newell (Hawera) and E. Lawrence (Manawatu) in the West Coast (N.T.) athletic team at the rs'ew Zealand championships was made by the Centre at a meeting held in Hawera last evening. Newell will compete in the 120 yards hurdles and Lawrence in the cycling events. Mr C. J. Cummings was appointed manager of the team. As the Centre is unable to provide expenses, -funds for the trip will have to be found by sub-centres, clubs or individuals. Remits for consideration at the conference were discussed. It was decided not to support the deletion of walking events from the championship programme, but .to support the inclusion of a 220 yards low hurdles.
The secretary (Mr Cummings) was given authority to attend to the regulating of the affiliation of several clubs, including Waverley.
The resignation of the president, Mr F. W. Aislier, Palmerston North, was not accepted and he is to be asked to hold office until the annual meeting. The New Zealand council wrote that the Eltharn Club had broken the rules in arranging the visit of Ogg (Wellington), who attended an Eltharn sports meeting, without the consent of the council. The council advised that the rule would be strietlv enforced.
