PRIMARY SCHOOL SWIMMERS
TA KANAKI CHAMPIONSHIPS. BOTH TITLES TO NEW PLYMOUTH The annual Taranaki primary schools’ .swimming championships were decided at New Plymouth on Saturday, P. Hannan (N.P. Convent) winning the boys’ championship and D. Herdman (West End) the girls’ championship. The boys had to swim over four distances, and the girls were tested in a similar 'manner over four shorter distances. Regulations have been drawn up by the New Zealand Swimming Association, and the championships are decided on the points system, 5 being awarded for first, t for second and 1 for third place. Competitors in the senior events had to lie under 14 on October 1, 1032, anu similar conditions applied to the undei 10 class.
Standard times are also set for each distance, swimmers who-beat the star, dard to be given a certificate. As is usually the case at the Taranaki schools meeting, better times against the standard were returned by the girls, the boys rarely reaching, the mark set. The distances and standard times are: Boys, 50yds, 37sec.; 75yds, 61 sec..; 100yds, 85sec.; 150yds. 135 sec. Girls, 25yds, 22sec. ; 50yds, 45sec; 7c yds, 76sec.j 100yds, 112 sec.
