MUSIC IN SYDNEY
VISIT BY BOSS C. REILLY After a holiday in .Sydney over Christmas and January, Miss Constance Reilly returned to Hawera few days ago. Naturally she was specially interested in musical matters and she had many interesting experiences. Of special interest to Hawera people was her meeting again Mr Frank Hutchens, formerly of 'Hawera, who has been in 'Sydney for a number of years. He was very keen to hear news of Hawera and his many friends and sent cordial greetings to them all. Blr Hutchens has been doing quite a lot of composition recently and has had several works published. He has always been most associated with pianoforte music, but his time during the past year or two has been devoted largely to orchestral music and he has composed a quartette and a quintette which have received very favourable notice. A quartette of young musicians have played the former on several occasions and he speaks very highly of their work. They also arranged an extra player to perform the quintette. All who have'heard them consider the work to be exceedingly good. Bliss Reilly says that music in Sydney shows very great development and the - standard generally is high. Altogether her stay in .Sydney and its surroundings was most interesting and enjoyable.
