OTTAWA, Jan. 31. Canada will be affected only in a couple of cases by the United Kingdom’s regulations requiring an increased Empire content of 25 to 50 per cent, in goods admitted under the Empire preferential tariffs plan. Branches of United States automobile fir,ms may be hit, except General Motors and the Ford Company, which would qualify under the increased minimum. Suggestions that some branches may have to bo closed arc not taken seriously here. \ . Canada also requires 30 per cent. material and labour to qualify for Empire preference except in l cottons, which are reduced to 33 1-3 per cent at Britain’s request.
