MAGISTRATE WELCOMED

MR W. H. WOODWARD AT ELTHAM. Prior to the opening of the court business at Eltham yesterday a welcome Avas given to Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., Avho Avas recently appointed to the Taranaki district in place.of Mr 11. W. Tate, who has retired on superannuation. All the members of the Bar in the district, several Justices of the Peace aiid members of the Police Force were present.. On behalf of the members of the Bar in Eltham, Mr T. B. Crump extended a Avelcome to Mr WoodAvard on assuming his duties in charge of this court and assured him of their goodAvill. His Worship Avould have the cordial co-operation of the Bar, such as Avas given to Ins predecessor. Mr Crump said he Avished to associate also the members of the police in Eltham and district. Mr Ira J. Bridger apologised for the absence of the senior Justice of the Peace, Mr G. Stubbs, and added a Avelcome and an assurance of sincere co-operation in the work of the court. He also said the Justices would be pleased to have instructions from his Worship. In acknowledging the AA'elcome accorded. Mr Woodward said he was pleased to he assured that the relations with the Bar would be as cordial as with his predecessor. He thanked the justices for their assurance that they would he willing to assist him asi they had done in the past to Mr Tate. He added that he had been immediately attracted bv the district, and considered himself very fortunate in the appointment in being able to meet with the counsel and Justices with whom he Avould he associated.
